Background

At White Horse Energy we are always looking for new opportunities to shape change within the UK biomass energy sector, challenging industry norms and exploring new ways to better serve our customers and the world around us. This approach has led to this successful bid to participate in the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s Biomass Feedstocks Innovation Programme, developing an innovation to address current barriers facing domestic biomass supply in the UK.

In July 2021, White Horse Energy was awarded a Phase 1 contract to assess the feasibility of a proposed mobile pelletisation innovation to be applied to energy crops and innovative agricultural residues in the UK. This innovation incorporates Metitron GmbH’s mobile pelletiser technology within a transportable pelletiser unit enabling farmers to create a low-carbon, renewable energy source year-round.

Following completion of Phase 1 in February 2022, White Horse Energy can announce that our project has been selected by a competitive process to proceed into Phase 2 from June 2022 until the end of the programme in March 2025. During this time, we will bring our innovation to practical realisation and demonstrate how it will be deployed in the real world.

This project represents an opportunity for White Horse Energy to participate in a more sustainable and secure future for UK low-carbon energy supply, working with our project partners to deliver this project and contribute towards the UK’s path to reduce net CO2 emissions to zero by 2050.
